Everyone treats the flight path as a taxi ride and the blue zone as a coin flip. They are not independent. Across every 8x8 km map, the final circle lands markedly closer to the aircraft route than random chance allows — which means the moment you see your route, you already know something about where the match ends.

The finding
Take each match's final circle and measure how far sideways it sits from that match's own flight path. Then measure the same circle against a different match's flight path on the same map. If the two were unrelated the distances would match. They do not — real pairings sit about 40% closer.
1.00 would mean no relationship at all. Lower means the circle is dragged harder toward the aircraft route.
Why this is real and not a trick of the maths
The route is reconstructed, not recorded, so a sceptic should ask whether the effect is an artefact of the reconstruction. It is not — and the test is simple. Split matches by how cleanly the route could be measured. A real effect gets stronger when the measurement is good and fades when it is poor. An artefact would not care.

The effect roughly doubles between the worst and best measured routes, and the worst-measured group lands near 1.00 — no relationship, exactly where a broken measurement should sit.

How this was measured
PUBG never emits the aircraft route, so we reconstruct it. The points where players leave the plane all lie along the flight line, and fitting a line through that cloud recovers it. We use total least squares rather than ordinary regression, because ordinary regression breaks down on the near-vertical routes the game generates as often as any other.
Circle geometry comes from the game's own periodic state events, captured every ten seconds or so — every phase's centre and radius, not just the last one. Contest risk is the density of kills in the first 200 seconds: where people actually die on landing.
Limits worth knowing. Matches come from the histories of players registered here, so this is not a uniform sample of all PUBG matches and it leans heavily toward Steam. Zone generation is server-side and does not care who is in the lobby, so that is largely harmless for this question — but do not read it as a claim about regions or populations. Kill positions are recorded at the shooter, not the victim. And this describes Season 42 only.
